What’s all this then?

_MG_0588

Faunographic is for folks who love animals and wildlife adventures. The site was founded by Rachelle Mackintosh, a Sydney-based editor, journalist and photographer who fancies herself as some kind of Davina Attenborough/ Bev Grylls hybrid (but is prepared to accept she’s just a shameless wildlife perve).

Mackintosh is accredited by the Australian Society of Travel Writers, and produces/hosts the Wild Lives podcast. She’s held several journo positions over the years – right now she’s the Travel Content Director of New Idea and Managing Editor of WHO; and in previous lives she was the Editor of Women’s Health (where her favourite bit was overseeing the travel section)the Travel Editor of Aussie POST; Features Editor at Travel Week, and Chief Subeditor at Girlfriend and Cosmopolitan magazines. Her wildlife photos and stories have appeared in all of those mags, as well as Tourism AustraliaThe Huffington PostHarper’s Bazaar and Bride To Be. And her appearance on TV’s The Daily Edition, where she was invited to talk about her wildlife photography, was a bit spesh:

Throughout her career Mackintosh has travelled HEAPS to see wild animals. Life highlights include tracking tigers in Siberia, gorillas in Rwanda, chimps in Uganda, cheetahs in Namibia, big cats in India and polar bears in the subarctic, along with numerous wild adventures across outback Australia, Iceland, the US, Africa, Jordan, Canada, New Zealand, the Indian Ocean, South Pacific, Southeast Asia, Japan and Finland. Swimming with humpbacks, whale sharks, dwarf minke whales, great white sharks and giant manta rays has also tickled her pickle, although the time she was nearly beaten up by an agro sea lion in the Galapagos still makes her cringe (well HE started it…) She’s a bit weirded out by talking about herself in the third person, so … ok.

  9. Hallo Rachelle,

short question of a Chemistry Profess at the Free University of Berlin. May I use one of your fotos in an article about pyrethrum flowers and their use for insect control. I plan to publish the material in the German journal “Chemie in Unserer Zeit” (Chemistry in our Time). The readership of this journal consists of biology and chemistry school and university teachers and students. The foto is number L1070249. Of course I will add the source and I should emphasize, that my writing is (unfortunately) completely non-commercial and I would appreciate your permission for using that foto.

Thanks a lot in advance and best regards from Berlin, Germany
