The one-of-a-kind T-27/ Dhawajhandi came in for a close up as she passed under Banyan Bridge, where we were sitting. I got to see her on 3 different days during this visit - lucky eh? From earlier this month in Mukki, Kanha National Park.
Jackals are such amazing fellas - competing against tigers, dholes and leopards for food can't be easy for these little dogs, but luckily they're pretty imaginative. My friend Kheleshwar works in Kanha National Park (where I took this), and one day he saw a jackal watching a herd of chitals. The jackal clearly wanted to eat one, but first he had to find a way to separate a fawn from its mum. Anyways, he picked his target - a doe and fawn - and as he approached them he started to walk with an exaggerated limp, trying to convey that he posed no threat. The doe saw him limping and thought he was a gimp, so she turned her back on him. As soon as she did that, the jackal pounced on her fawn ... and dinner was served. SMART. And not too different to my own tried-and-tested approach at the Sizzler buffet.
The Indian Roller is a pretty common bird in Central India - how lucky are the folks who get to see them every day?!
The beautiful T32/Umajhola in Kanha National Park earlier this month. I was very excited to see that she looked pregnant - fingers crossed everything runs smoothly and she delivers her first litter in the next month or so. Will keep you posted! 💛 #natgeo100contest
