The whales were very quiet all weekend, which seems odd given the extreme winds (they usually get jumpy in gusty conditions). Was also very surprised to find a few separate pods of juvies already heading south - seems a bit early to be leaving the party up north. With whales moving (unexpectedly) in both directions it was tricky to track them, but luckily there's still heaps around. This was off Manly last weekend, late in the arvo
Hey mates! If you're heading out to see the whales today, bring plenty of warm layers (including a raincoat because there's heaps of spray out there) and a sense of adventure! Yesterday the epic wind turned the Tasman into a washing machine and spotting the whales was extremely challenging. Heaps of fun though. It was also a great day for albatrosses, and this guy, the Giant Southern Petrel (aka Antarctic Petrel) even made a rare cameo.
Looking forward to a day on the water with these magic fellas and hopefully a late arvo light show
Another twist in this fella's bounce around North Bondi last Friday. Hoping for more of the same today!
